Welcome to the webpages of the Santa Monica Bay Observatory
(an element of the Southern California Coastal Ocean Observing System (SCCOOS)

These pages provide a hub for information and data about this interdisciplinary project that aims to document the physical, chemical, and biological variations in Santa Monica Bay.

The Santa Monica Bay Observatory consists currently of an oceanographic mooring located about 10 miles offshore within Santa Monica Bay, a shorebased station at the Santa Monica Pier, and observations taken bi-weekly by UCLA's oceanographic research vessel (SeaWorld). Most of the data collected by the various platforms are made available to the public and can be accessed through this website.
